Burst Angel Complete Series ~ 爆裂天使
Nov 16th, 2007 by valho
Burst Angel or Bakuretsu Tenshi is an anime series produced by Gonzo featuring character designs by Ugetsu Hakua. The original 24 episodes run were from April 2004 to September 2004 and the R1 DVD was release from October 2005 to February 2006. The R1 DVD for the OVA Burst Angel Infinity or Tenshi Sairin was just recently released.
The series is set in the future of Tokyo where crimes run rampant and it’s legal to possess firearms. The focus of the series is a group of four girls who work as mercenary, who investigate mutated human monster and various crimes through out Tokyo. There are a lot of gun fights and lots of mech battle involve as well through out the series.
This box set collects the original single DVD release into a more compact box. The artwork on the box is nice, but the quality of the box itself is just so so, just a folded cardboard, well at least it’s glossy :).
Included are the DVDs of course and the guidebooks that was included in the single DVD release. Pretty nice of Funimation to include them in the box set.
This is how the DVDs are stored, instead of individual thin cases, it’s stored in a brick packaged set; I think that’s what it’s called.
The guidebooks are stored in a separate box.
There are 6 guidebooks all together, but I am missing guidebook 4, a packing mistake :(. I can get the whole box set exchange, but that would mean sending the set back to Rightstuf and then waiting for it to arrive again, so I just gonna leave it as it is.
The guidebooks are basically a guide on the characters, settings, mechanics, etc.
Some screen caps from disc 1.
Jo, Meg, Sei and Amy.
Burst Angel have a decent story but nothing spectacular. The animation is pretty good, a combination of CG and hand drawn, which is quite common in animes that involve mechs. What I really like is the character designs, especially Jo, who look quite cool and badass with her twin Desert Eagle. As for Meg I prefer her look at the end of the series, where she wears a red jacket similar to Jo’s and carry an oversized revolver. If that’s how Meg appear through out the OVA, I am definitely getting it XD.

Nice grab, sorry to hear about the guidebook issue and hope nothing really important was in the guidebook that’s missing. But still…..
I guess since I’m a person who lives more for the extras than the main item itself, I would be more affected and would most likely send it back. But you do seem to watch the anime at least, so I suppose it’s all good ^^;
Not too big of a Burst Angels fan, but I’m loving the illustration of Sei in the 3rd pic there. It looks really sweet!
Erf too bad for the guide book… since I fond of that kind of goodies, I would have become crazy ^^;
Bakuten DVDs are out here in France, but unitarily. No special complete box yet, which I am waiting for. Love that show. Really love it
yah too bad, missing 1 to complete is a pain, should’ve sent them back ^^;
hmm I haven’t watched this series yet, too many anime in my list @_@
Lovely artwork.
@shino, ron~hmm looks like you guys are encouraging me to return it, but I am really lazy to wait XD
@shino~Ugetsu Hakua illustration is pretty cool, not sure if he did anything else beside Burst Angel though
@lu-k~hmm probably will release one soon I guess, usually takes a while for them to release a boxset.
@ron~usually I watch any animes that have babes, mechs and action first than anything else XD
@danny~yeah, the artwork is from Ugetsu Hakua Flamboyant artbook
Lovely, I might just get this for the packaging.
One of my favorite series ever, still need to catch up to the OVAs.
@rain~yeah the packaging quite nice, really like thsoe artwork
@belela-san~the first vol 1 for the OVA are mostly recaps and only with 1 eps of the OVA in it, which is a prequel to Burst Angel. Not sure if there’s are any more eps for the OVA but I am hoping for a sequel
Any one know when is the new season begin? as you see the trailer in “Burst Angel Infinity OVA”…
@aniflickk~no idea, I am waiting for it as well. It looks cool
